Traffic signal drawings are the bridge between a project requirement and an accurate equipment quotation. A drawing review should identify what must be supplied, how it is mounted, and which details still require project approval before an order is placed.
Read the drawing as an equipment schedule
List every signal location and note the required head type, aspect arrangement, bracket or pole reference, controller connection, and quantity. Where the drawing uses symbols, make a keyed schedule so the supplier and project team interpret the same symbol in the same way.
Items to check before quotation
- Signal locations, approach directions, and required display functions.
- Signal diameter, aspect layout, arrow or pedestrian symbols, and countdown displays where shown.
- Pole, mast arm, bracket, mounting height, and cable-entry references.
- Controller, cabinet, power, and wiring interfaces shown in the project documents.
- Quantities, alternates, notes, and any separate supply exclusions.
Mark unknowns instead of filling gaps
If a drawing does not identify voltage, controller output, bracket detail, or document requirement, list it as an open question. Guessing at these interfaces can create a quotation that appears complete but cannot be installed as intended. The responsible designer should confirm requirements that affect the final system.
Send a usable RFQ package
Include the latest revision of the drawing, bill of quantities, required destination, desired delivery timing, and a short list of unresolved points. For a replacement project, add photos and dimensions of the existing installation.
