Traffic Signal Head Specification Checklist for Project Buyers

1 min read by GQ Traffic

A traffic signal head should be specified as part of a system. Before asking for a quotation, identify the signal function, aspect configuration, electrical requirement, mounting arrangement, and controller interface.

Define the signal function first

State whether the signal is for a vehicle movement, pedestrian crossing, lane use, directional movement, temporary traffic control, or another defined application. The function determines the preferred symbol, aspect arrangement, and controller logic.

Core specification fields

  • Signal diameter and number of aspects
  • Ball, arrow, pedestrian, countdown, or mixed display requirement
  • Required voltage and available controller outputs
  • Housing, visor, bracket, pole, or arm mounting arrangement
  • Cable entry, connector, and wiring documentation requirement
  • Quantity, destination, packaging, and project delivery window

Check compatibility before ordering

Ask the controller supplier or system integrator to confirm the output type and sequence. If the project uses an existing cabinet, include photos of terminals, wiring labels, and the old signal head where permitted. This reduces the risk of ordering a visually correct product with an unsuitable electrical or mounting configuration.

Useful supporting documents

Include intersection drawings, pole schedules, approved material lists, signal phase diagrams, and any required test or documentation list. Where a requirement is unclear, mark it as pending rather than guessing.

Browse traffic signal product families and send the checklist to GQ Traffic for a quotation-ready review.
