Controller commissioning depends on approved project information, installed equipment, and the designated commissioning process. Before equipment arrives on site, the contractor or integrator should organize the documents and records needed to confirm the intended signal operation.
Prepare the approved operating information
Collect the signal phase plan, intersection or site layout, required movement sequence, wiring schedule, controller configuration requirement, and any authority approval documents. These inputs should come from the project design or responsible engineer, not from assumptions made during product selection.
Record the installed system
- Controller model or configuration reference and cabinet location.
- Signal-head type, aspect layout, voltage, and circuit identification.
- Power source, cable route, terminals, connectors, and any approved interface details.
- Photos of labels and installation condition where permitted by the project.
- Open site issues that could affect safe testing or operation.
Separate quotation scope from commissioning responsibility
A controller quotation can identify equipment and requested documents, but it does not replace the site commissioning plan. Clarify who is responsible for installation, programming, testing, acceptance, traffic management, and authority coordination. This prevents a product delivery from being mistaken for a completed traffic-control system.
Use a controlled change record
When site conditions require a change, record the approved change, the affected equipment, and the revised document reference. Keep the same terminology in the controller schedule, signal head schedule, wiring drawings, and acceptance record.
