Vertical Pole
Explore Vertical Pole from GAOQIAO, a China traffic light manufacturer supplying road safety and intersection solutions worldwide.
A vertical pole (also called a stub pole, post-top pole, or straight-top pole) is a vertical mounting element with no horizontal arm, used where the signal head or fixture sits directly on top of the pole. Common applications include pedestrian crossing signals, parking lot lighting, bollard-style signals, and retroreflective warning markers. For project buyers, the variables are height, top-mount spigot diameter, and whether the pole must accommodate side-mounted accessories (signs, cameras, push-buttons). GAOQIAO has manufactured galvanized vertical poles since 2008, with deployments across 60+ countries.

How to Choose the Right Vertical Pole
Vertical pole selection is driven primarily by the height of the signal or fixture it carries. A pedestrian signal head sits at 2.5-3.5 m above the walkway; a parking lot luminaire at 6-8 m; a small-vehicle signal at 3.5-5 m.
The top spigot diameter is the most overlooked detail. Most signal and luminaire manufacturers use one of three standard spigot diameters (42 mm, 60 mm, 76 mm), and a mismatched spigot requires a field adapter that adds wind load and visual clutter. Always confirm the spigot requirement before ordering - we stock all three as standard options with no cost premium.
For poles that will carry side-mounted accessories (signs, push-buttons, small cameras), request the drilled and tapped accessory holes at order placement. Field drilling after galvanization is possible but creates a corrosion point that requires touch-up coating and 6-month inspection cycles.
In high-vandalism areas, specify the heavier 6 mm wall version. The cost premium is approximately 15%, but the heavier pole resists vehicle impact and deliberate bending that the 3 mm standard version does not survive.
Key Features and Benefits
Three Standard Spigot Diameters, No Premium
We stock 42 mm, 60 mm, and 76 mm top spigots at the same price point. This covers the full range of common signal and luminaire manufacturers without the need for field adapters or custom drilling.
Galvanized Inside and Out
Both surfaces are hot-dip galvanized to 80-100 microns. Interior galvanization prevents the rust bleeding at the handhole and base plate that typically appears within 5 years on externally-only galvanized poles.
Pre-Drilled Accessory Holes on Request
For orders specifying side-mounted accessories, the pole ships with all accessory mounting holes drilled and tapped at the factory, before galvanization. This eliminates field drilling and the corrosion risk it introduces.
Common Applications
Vertical Pole products are specified in a wide range of projects:
- Pedestrian crossing signal pole (with push-button bracket)
- Parking lot lighting pole (6-8 m straight-top)
- Bollard-style signal post (low-height pedestrian signal)
- Warning sign post (with retroreflective marker)
- Sidewalk lighting pole (decorative urban standard)
- Solar panel mounting pole (with integrated battery compartment)
- Countdown timer pole (pedestrian crossing countdown display)

Installation and Maintenance
Installation is the simplest of any pole type: pour a small concrete foundation (typically 800 mm to 1200 mm deep), set the 4-bolt anchor pattern, cure, then bolt the pole down. A 2-person crew can install 6-8 vertical poles per day. Maintenance is essentially nil - the galvanized finish requires no repainting, and the only field service item is the annual bolt-torque check at the base.
Certifications and Compliance
All vertical poles are manufactured under ISO 9001:2015 and ship with mill certificate, galvanization thickness report, and structural calculation. Standard compliance: EN 40, AASHTO LTS-6, GB 50017. Custom engineering for non-standard heights or accessories is available from 50-unit minimum order quantity.
Why Choose GAOQIAO
GAOQIAO produces galvanized vertical poles for export from our 12,000 m^2 Nanjing factory, with monthly capacity of 15,000+ standard poles. We stock the three standard spigot diameters, all at the same price, and ship within 15-25 days for standard orders. Custom-engineered poles (non-standard height, side accessories, special finishes) are quoted within 48 hours.
