Traffic Signal Submittal Package Checklist for Contractors and Project Buyers

2 min read by GQ Traffic

A traffic signal submittal package should make it easy for a contractor, consultant, or project owner to compare the proposed equipment with the approved project requirements. It is not only a collection of product brochures. It should connect the signal heads, controller, mounting hardware, drawings, and required documents to the same equipment schedule.

Start with the approved project list

Build the package from the tender documents, approved material list, signal layout, and pole schedule. Give every supplied item a clear reference: location, item name, quantity, required configuration, and drawing reference. Do not substitute a generic catalog image for a project-specific configuration.

What the package should identify

  • Signal head diameter, aspect layout, display function, voltage, and quantity.
  • Controller scope, outputs, cabinet or mounting arrangement, and required wiring information.
  • Pole, bracket, arm, or adapter scope where these items are part of supply.
  • Product drawings, dimensions, installation information, and available test or certificate documents requested by the project.
  • Open points that require consultant or owner confirmation before manufacture.

Keep documents traceable

Use the same model or configuration reference across the quotation, drawings, bill of quantities, and packing list. If one item has several options, label the proposed option and list the items that remain subject to confirmation. This avoids a common submittal problem: the documents look complete but refer to different configurations.

Review the interfaces

The signal head, controller, cable entry, bracket, and pole should be reviewed together. For retrofit work, include photos and dimensions of the existing installation. For new work, include the approved intersection drawing and mounting schedule. A supplier can prepare product documents, but the project team remains responsible for confirming the final installation design.

RFQ information to send

Send the bill of quantities, drawings, requested document list, destination, quantities, target delivery window, and any required approval process. Start with the traffic signal head specification checklist and send the complete package through the GQ Traffic inquiry form.
